NextEra Energy is a leader in producing electricity from clean and renewable fuels.
NextEra Energy Resources is the largest developer, owner and operator of wind and solar power assets in North America, currently operating over 65 wind plants in 16 states and Canada. Their portfolio includes over 6,500 megawatts of wind generation. To date, WindLogics has contributed its expertise to over 30 operating NextEra Energy wind plants.
Among these projects is the 112.5-MW Wolf Ridge Wind Energy Center, in Cooke County, Texas. Our work in support of this project began in 2006 when we were asked to conduct met tower data analysis on existing on-site data. Upon completion, this effort expanded to include a full site assessment as well as the delivery of micrositing data, additional met tower validation and net capacity factor (NCF) calculations for multiple turbine technologies. As with all NextEra Energy development projects, WindLogics employed its atmospheric modeling techniques and weather data archives to provide long-term energy production estimates for the project.
Using this analysis, seventy five 1.5-MW turbines were constructed at the site, which began operation in 2008. WindLogics continues to provide operational services to Wolf Ridge, including real-time forecasting and operational assessment services.
WindLogics began working with FPL Energy (predecessor to NextEra Energy) in 2004, assisting the company with wind resource assessment services to support their development goals. Since then, our work for NextEra Energy has expanded to include wind plant design and turbine layout, met data collection and management as well as energy forecasting services for the company’s power marketing subsidiary.
In late 2006, following many successful projects, WindLogics was acquired and became a wholly owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy. We are proud to be the wind knowledge behind these industry-leading efforts, as we continue to independently serve the greater wind community with a full range of services.
