Mark Ahlstrom, WindLogics CEO, will be participating in a UWIG Spring Technical Workshop panel, sharing his insights on the recently completed Minnesota RDF Forecasting Project. Results of the R&D effort provide control room operators with more accurate wind energy forecasts compared to standard methodologies. The research also resulted in advancements in extreme weather warning and improved techniques for wind integration cost analysis.

“Operating results of any power plant depend on both the available fuel supply and the efficiency of converting that fuel into electric energy,” said Mark. “We must carefully separate the fuel issues – the available wind resource at the wind plant – from the operating results to understand performance in a useful way. By doing so, we also gain important insights for dealing with wind risk and long-term forecasting.”

“The project helped advance the way we think about wind forecasting and integration, particularly in the community that formed around our technical review meetings at UWIG,” Mark added. WindLogics, along with AREVA T&D, EnerNex and the Utility Wind Integration Group, conducted the project through an Xcel Energy Renewable Development Fund (RDF) grant.

The UWIG Spring Technical Workshop will be held April 1-3, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA. For more information on the Utility Wind Integration Group, please visit the UWIG website.
