IEEE-PES 2010 General Meeting
July 25-29, 2010
Minneapolis, MN

This year’s IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting will focus on Power Systems Engineering in Challenging Times, covering topics related to transmission, distribution, generation and renewable energy.

WindLogics will be participating in Super Session 1: Wind and Solar Energy: Challenges in Furthering its Penetration, when WindLogics CEO Mark Ahlstrom will speak on a panel titled The Changing Role of Wind Forecasting for Utility System Operations based on Emerging Experience, Integration Studies and Research. The panelists will explore the following issues around how forecasting is used to address operational problems:

  • What is the current “state of the art” for wind forecasting?
  • What can the industry learn from recent integration studies?
  • What can be learned from direct feedback from system operators?

WindLogics Chief Scientist Dennis Moon and Senior Atmospheric Scientist Cathy Finley will also contribute to Mark's remarks at the Super Session.

In addition, Mark Ahlstrom will be contributing to the NERC Integrating Variable Generation Task Force (IVGTF) Interconnection and Operating Tasks session. This update will focus on several of the thirteen tasks identified for Phase II of the IVGTF work, including tasks for Interconnection Requirements Enhancement; Low Voltage Ride-Through Requirements; and Balancing Authority Communications. Mark is the team leader for IVGTF Task 2.1 on Variable Generation Power Forecasting for Operations.
